One of WordPress 2.8 new features is Codepress, a syntax highlighted editor for WordPress files. While the idea was exiting, I must admit I didn’t enjoyed using this new editor. Here is how to remove it.

The first thing to do is to login to your WordPress dashboard.
Once done, go to "Appearence", "Editor".
Click on the "Screen Options" in the top right corner:

Click on the "Disable syntax hightlighting" link, and that's all, you're done. A lot easier than I thought at first!
Thanks to Leland for the great tip!

Oh no! What have I done?!
I don’t have a “Screen Options” option on my screen (that’s confusing) in my “Appearence”, “Editor”.
Take a hard look at the screenshot and also make sure you are on WordPress 2.8.
2.8.2 to be exact, and at /wp-admin/theme-editor.php
All I have is “Help”
From what I understand after some research, they’ve removed it for now due to browser incompatabilities: http://wordpress.org/support/topic/289008
I think the 2.8.0 folks should look into updating. IIRC, there were some nice security problems they’ve fixed.
It’s more easier than i thought before. Thanks
Thanks JBJ for the link!
Yep, Derrick is right. I believe the syntax highlighting was removed in WordPress 2.8.1 due to browser incompatibilities, so this recipe only applies to 2.8.
Another great fix for me to use on my personal blog =D and it’s very easy indeed!
Till then,
Jean
Thanks for the info- it turns out Microsoft’s bing really is making an impact, it seems to me your blog is getting a lot of search engine traffic from bing- have you found this to be the case?
Unfortunatelly, my wordpress is still 2.7.1
You have saved my life! Ok not really, but you have saved me a lot of frustration. I have been doing most of my editing outside of Wordpress simply because the highlighting was driving me crazy.
